Adam to Noah

Genesis Chapter 5

Chapter 5 of the book of Genesis is basically the genealogy of Noah from Adam.  It’s a rather boring read.  Most of these men lived for over 900 years.  None of these men had children until the age of 65.  Can you imagine not having to worry about having children until you’re over years of age?  Health care must have been extraordinary.  They did not have wars.  Wild animals and parasites must not have been a problem.  Accidents must never have occurred for the first 2000 years of mankind’s existence either.

One interesting point is made that Enoch walked with YHWH, and did not die.  YHWH took him away.  We are not told why this is the case.  Enoch must have been spectacular, I bet his exploits, in YHWH’s name were wonderful.  But on the other hand, his exploits weren’t good enough to be recorded!

Looking at the life span of these men, when Noah was born Enosh, Kenan, Mahalaleh, Jared, Methuselah, and Lamach were still alive.  Noah’s great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was still live.  But only Methuselah and Lamach were alive when Noah had Shem, Ham, and Japheth.  Can you imagine having that many of your relatives still alive when you were a “child”.

Another note in the NIV is about Methuselah, Noah’s grandfather.  He died in the year of the Flood.  I hope Noah didn’t just leave him behind.  Fortunately, Lamach, Noah’s father, died 5 years before the Flood.  When Methuselah died it had been 1656 years since the creation.  Look what mankind has done since the year 352 AD.  With 2 lineages, both from Cain and Seth, mankind’s population would have exploded all over the world.  Oh that right, it did.  But don’t worry about that YHWH is about to destroy 1656 years of live on Earth.
