The Flood (Part 2)

Genesis Chapter 6:9-22

The remaining section of chapter 6 is rather boring.  YHWH gives his grievances with mankind made in his own image.  Can you believe it, they are too violent?  What did this all powerful, all knowing, loving creator expect…they were made in his image!  So what does YHWH do…destroys them in a violent flood!  Like father, like son is very fitting in this case.

Well Noah was a righteous man; in fact he walks with YHWH.  Noah was kinda like Enoch, his great-grandfather.  But he was obviously not quite as good as Enoch, because YHWH did not take him away after 300 years.  We know that from Genesis 5:32 that Noah was 500 years old before he had his children.  YHWH was also kind enough to let Noah take his 3 sons and daughter-in-laws with him on the ark.

YHWH also wanted two of each animal and enough food for all 8 humans and 1000 of animals to be put on a boat that was about than 2.3 acres (0.93 hectares) in size. Do the math yourself, it was 450 ft long by 75 ft wide and had 3 stories. Here is an aerial view of 2.3 acres.  I wonder about all the food storage…especially for the tigers, lions, wolves, coyotes, and bears.  Where was all the meat stored?  When did the polar bears start their journey to meet Noah.  What about the kangaroos and wombats?

The good thing was that Noah did exactly what YHWH told him to do.  I personally would have had to ask if I shouldn’t make a few extras arks.

I do start to wonder also about the method YHWH used to communicate with the patriarchs of humanity.  Now-a-day he seems pretty quite.  And could Noah have had freewill if YHWH showed up on his doorstep?  Did Noah just have a dream, and somehow remembered the details when he woke up?  Or maybe Noah was inspired to make this huge ark on a whim.  Ah the good old day when YHWH so clearly spoke to humanity.<–>
