The Flood (Part 3)

Genesis Chapter 7

The 7th chapter of Genesis has a number of talking points.  The first point I will discuss is the number of animals in this ark.  The second point is the 7 days of waiting.  The third is the height of the water.  And the final point is the total days in the ark.

In verse 2 and 3 YHWH tells Noah to take 7 pairs of clean animal and 7 pairs of all birds.  Wait did YWHH not tell Noah to take two of every kind of animal in Genesis 6:20?  I just YHWH was just giving a rough estimate in that chapter.  Noah now has to get 7 pairs of all the birds in the world on the ark?  The number of bird species is about 8616, multiply that by 14 and you get 172,624 birds in an ark that is only 2.3 acres in area, plus the 8 humans and all the pairs of animals.  BTW, that includes 26,000 pairs of animals as well.  Another issue is the concept of clean verse unclean.  YHWH has yet to give mankind the 10 commandments, so how exactly does Noah know which are clean and which are unclean?  To make things fuzzy, do you remember Genesis 1:26-30?  Yeah, that’s where YHWH gives Adam all the plants to eat and all the animals to rule over.  Nowhere has unclean verse clean been set down.

In verses 9 and 10 it would seem that Noah entered the ark and waited 7 days for the rain to come.  Yet is verse 13 the Word says that on the very day that Noah entered the ark the rain started.  It would seem that a gap in language has occurred.

The amount of fresh water is also quite staggering.  Basically if all the mountains of the world are covered in water 20 ft deep, that would imply that the oceans are no longer salty.  I don’t see any concerned for the fresh and salt water animals.  Neither type could survive the flood of rain water into their habitat.  The fresh water fish would drown due to the low level of O2 in that much water.  The salt water animals would die either due to lack of food (the coral would drown).  But no one seems to care!

Finally, what is the total days locked in the ark?  The bare minimum is 150 days, but it could have been an additional 40 days, and if they waited 7 days for the rain…197 days total.  How could a boat 2.3 acres in size hold 224,632 living beings, all their food, and all their bodily wastes?  Remember they didn’t have running water!  The store rooms must have been staggering in size.  All the carnivores would have been living in the height of ecstasy…or tearing down the walls trying to get their next kill.

With these 4 talking points I just cannot believe that the Word of YHWH could possibly be accurate.  2.3 acres is only 100,188 sq ft.  Just the living mass of 224,632 life-forms taking up that space leaves 0.446sq ft per individual.  And most of that would have to be used to store their 6.5 months worth of food.  Include the carnivores and the ark was not big enough to save all the animals of the world.
