Covenant with Noah (Part 2)

 Genesis Chapter 9:8 – 17

In the later part of chapter 9, YHWH describes his covenant with Noah.  Here is where YHWH promises to never destroy the life on earth with a flood again.  Did he forget his covenant with us on Dec 24, 2004?  or maybe it was just those heathens he was punishing?  But it clearly states in verse 11:

Ge 9:11 I establish my covenant with you:  Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.

Or maybe he should get off on a technicality…not all the earth was destroyed by the tsunami.

Isn’t it odd that an all-powerful, omnipotent creator requires a rainbow to remember his covenant with his creation?  I guess a wrathful, angry all-loving being must get forgetful when we don’t do exactly what he wants.  Or maybe he is so busy with all those intercessory prayers and miracles that he forgets his covenant he made with Noah thousands of years ago.

The experiment: one hypothesis

I do understand that the NIV is not a completely accurate translation.  I understand that there is no accurate translation in existence.  I have had to choose one; I prefer one that is not filled with archaic language (like the KJV).  Since I am scientist, I regard research and teamwork as highly valuable qualities.  In the past, when I have read the preface of the NIV it has always stood out as holding those qualities.

Unfortunately, the god of the Bible has not ensured that “his Word” would be recorded accurately.  Since the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient creator and inspiration for this “Holy Book” has not kept “his Word” consistent, I am forced to use what seems best to me, just as anyone else must do.

In the US we now have a surge of people claiming that the “Word of God” can be translated literally.  Part of my experiment is to examine whether this hypothesis can be applied to this “Holy Book”.  Without unity in the “Christian Church” and no unified authority from the “Word of God”, this hypothesis seems to be false.  Part of any experiment is to perform tests, provide data, and make conclusions.  This experiment is not just for me, it is for any person who is willing to partake in this experiment.  The test is reading the Bible; the data is the personal interpretation of the reading.  I am providing proof that I have read this book and my posts include my interpretation and conclusions.

With all experiments, as more data is collected the more accurate the interpretation of that data and the conclusions become.  I am finishing the first Book (Genesis) but the experiment is not over, all the data has not been collected or even presented.   At some point, I would like to include the original languages and documents (or as close as we can get).  At the same time, this would include the religious books written by the Gnostics, which the traditional Church believes are not inspired by “God”.  So, as with any experiment there is also an assumption.  This assumption is that the NIV will provide the correct data to be analyzed.
