YHWH, Again, Interferes with Freewill
July 22, 2009, 12:43 pm by dc-agape.
Exodus 24
Here Moses returns to the people to tell them what YHWH has told him. They, of course, agree to follow these laws. There are some blood sacrifices and a covenant with YHWH is signed. I know there are plenty of details, but most of them are just the type of “go do this” and “Moses went and did that”.
Moses then returns to YHWH with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and 70 other elders. Nadab and Abihu are the eldest sons of Aaron (Exodus 6:23). All 74 people see YHWH and do not die. They also lose any freewill, since they have seen YHWH. So for all you people that say “YHWH does not show himself because that would remove freewill” you are liars. YHWH did show himself to people and it did not interfere with freewill!
YHWH then called Moses to approach closer. So Moses brought Joshua with him to the mountain top where the glory of YHWH resided. Moses and Joshua had to wait seven days before entering the cloud of YHWH glory. After that week, Moses (and we assume Joshua) then entered and stayed there for 40 days.
These 47 days had a tremendous effect. Everything the Israelites promised (Exodus 19:8, 24:7) is completely forgotten. Talk about short-term memory. Even Aaron and the 70 elders that saw YHWH so forget these promises. For during these 47 days Aaron is asked to create the Golden Calf (Exodus 32). Not a single person who saw YHWH even attempts to stop this from happening! To an Atheist, these are all signs that YHWH’s presence in the Israelite camp was not as strong as it would seem from reading from Moses’ perspective. Even Aaron does not have the same feeling of confidence! The elders that saw YHWH do not either. It truly looks like only Moses believed that YHWH existed! All the other Israelites did as they pleased. Of course, YHWH can then blame the Israelites for all the bad things that happen to them because they did not trust in him! But just imagine being one of the Israelites, if you knew and saw all the things that had happened would you not trust in YHWH? How could you not? None of them should have had freewill, yet every single one of them proceeded to immediately disobey YHWH. The oddest thing about this is that they all chose the same thing: to disobey. Not even a single person chose to stand up and defend Moses and YHWH! Don’t you think that there should have been dissention in the ranks?
